Scanner recommendations (and usb ports)

USB hubs are a no-brainer, hook it up and plug in more USB devices. I'd 
recommend getting a powered hub as some 'puters run out of juice on 
their USB ports.

You can also add another USB card to the PCI bus if you're using alot of 
fast peripherals. I've had good luck with the inexpensive StarTech cards.

May as well go with USB 2.0 for any new acquisitions.
