Intel 536EP WinModem

Has anyone had any luck with this modem in Linux?  I have installed the Intel-536ep RPM from SuSE and continue to get some serious errors while using the modem, most of them render the box useless.  

The error is "Division error" and looks very much like a Kernel Oops message, except the OS can sometimes keep working somewhat...

Does this ring a bell for anyone?  I've sent a comment to SuSE, who can't get back to me, and am wondering what the next step needs to be.  It's sad but I don't see too many real modems these days...
