If you have the patience to do install from source, you won't be disappointed
with gentoo, particularly if you like to install lots of add-on packages.

OTOH, I've heard nothing but good reports on the latest SUSE offerings, and
gentoo is not an established name in the commercial arena.  With RH withdrawing
from the user market, SUSE/Novell has a golden opportunity.

Or, the best of both worlds, do both and dual boot.
