A few ways:
1) Supported binary ebuilds (these have -bin in their name). Gentoo
puts these in /opt.
2) Any type of binary you can get from anywhere (tarballs, etc.) that
will run on your glibc/gcc level. As long as you put these in /opt or
/usr/local, you're cool. Keeping track of them is your responsibility.
3) You could even use rpm or deb packages (cough, gasp, spit), but you
should insure that these don't install to /usr to prevent corrupting the
standard ebuild environment.
4) Use the sample ebuild skeleton to cooerce the binary package you have
into ebuild format. Then, once you have it working properly, you can
offer it up for others to use.
