how to increase /root space

Use 'rpm -e' to remove the unused kernel RPMs installed by up2date. That 
should remove the extraneous System.map, vmlinuz, vmlinux, module-info, 
initrd and config files.

Find out all the kernel rpms you have installed using 'rpm -qa |grep kernel', 
remove the ones you don't use. The rpm removal process should clean up the 
grub.conf (menu.lst) file for you.
