No direct answer to your question.
IMHO, alsa is a great design concept but piss poor in the execution
details. I also have a card (SB 16 PCI) that works great using the
ES1371 OSS driver, but the equivalent ALSA module refuses even to
recognize the card!
I haven't seen many patches coming across for the new built-in alsa, so
I wouldn't hold your breath.
