Must be other factors too, I use Konqueror 3.0.5a-4 for file manager and
sometime ftp and web client.  Runs fine.

Right now with Evolution, Mozilla, Konqueror, Emacs, Konsole and
OpenOffice.org all open under KDE top shows CPU 96% idle.  That top
output you sent had CPU 0.0% idle.
