For some reason I would like to say XFCE rocks.

Yes I have it's cute and the themeing is excellent. It's what I have 
installed currently.

Some of the above I haven't heard of so I think I will have to do a 
little play.... I have found that using Xnest as a tester makes it easy. 
i.e.

#!/bin/bash

Xnest :1 -name "Xfce4" +kb -ac &

export DISPLAY=:1

xsetroot -display :1 -solid darkblue &

exec startkde # <Insert wm here>

I seem to use ./configure && make && make install the most....
rpm's s**t me to tears
