Um,

I have been trying to lighten the load on my PIII 600MHz w/ 512MB RAM.

So for starters I went back from KDM to XDM.
 From kwrite to nedit
 From OpenOffice 1.0.3 to OpenOffice 1.1
and From Mozilla to Thunderbird and Firebird
But the best improvement came from moving from KDE to XFCE
and finally the 2.6test2 kernel doesn't seem to have affected 
performance at all.

Admittedly some of the minor bells and whistles are gone moving to XFCE 
but the flexibility is still there to configure it how you want it.

Anyway that is my 2c for today.
