If the pilot-link page went away somebody else would pick it up.  It is OSS 
code, so it's not like it just vanishes.  Both RH and SuSE support USB PDA's 
out of the box.  My USB m500 works on both without any twiddling.  If you buy 
something without checking whether or not it will work first, expect to have 
fun setting it up.
