Well, getting the source code compiled fixed it up.
Using lindows 4.0:
Everything now is working.
I got the source code for jpilot and pilot-link from their respective home pages.
>From the warehouse:
Downloaded gcc-2.95, and made the usual symbolic link for g++.
Wouldn't compile pilot-link, cc1plus error. Also needed the readline libraries.
Removed gcc-2.95.
Downloaded gcc++-3.0
Make of pilot-link failed because it couldn't handle a space in the name of the
directory in which it was installed (My Documents).
Fixed that, make clean, then ./configure, make, make install worked.
Then, configured jpilot, with the pilot-link parameter, make, and make
install. All went well. Now, sync really syncs the Zire, instead of
just overwriting the files on the PC.
Ah...
That was about 50 hours of work to make my cheap Zire work.
It was great having the warehouse debian package manager to install and
uninstall (gcc 2.95) all this stuff. I suppose synaptic would be just
about as good. However, searching for software in the warehouse is a
dream. You really don't need to know the package names very accurately.
