Yes, it can be done. Pretty easily too. In fact, I
wrote a book on it :-) See

The book is an easy how-to guide for those who are
coming from a Windows background. The O'Reilly book is
the official and thorough manual for Samba.
I've set up and am running several Samba servers
serving hundreds (and one thousands) of Windows users,
all without any problems. Windows sysadmins who look
at them don't even know that anything is different
until I tell them.

SuSE has the OpenExchange server
(see

Haven't used it. I use CommuniGate Pro
(www.stalker.com), which is another commercial product
that runs on Linux and gives most of what you'd want
from an Exchange server: imap, pop and http email,
Outlook connectivity with MAPI, calendar, and some
other stuff.
