Zaire still won't connect

OK, here is my $.02 and knowledge of jpilot, pilot-link, etc. No flames please.
I have been using jpilot for over a year or more now (Since 0.99.2) and have
NEVER had any issue. I am on the jpilot user list and have nothing but good
things to day about the help I get there when I need it.
First, you need pilot-link installed when jpilot runs AND when it builds.
Second, there is information on jpilot web page regarding which version of
pilot-link is broken (I think it is 11.3, but don't quote me).
Jpilot is a GUI that invokes pilot-link to do its thing, much like gcombust
invokes cdrtools.
At this point, I don't believe that pilot-link works with usb connections (but
some folks have had luck, I believe).
I switched to from a Palm m105 (low end, serial), to a Kyocera smartphone, with
nary a problem and have been quite happy. While, as you say, the software
comes for free on Windows, I have had quite a time trying to get certain
configurations to work on Win XP for my daughters Palm (so there! as a matter
of fact, I back up her palm on my linux box).
And the software is free for linux and from my experience, works great, is
stable.
Also, people on the jpilot list do use Zire Palms. Look through the user
archives and I'll bet you'll find what your looking for; I always do.
Anyway, good luck & YMMV.
