Acroread -toPostScript question

I tried using the toPostScript option on a pdf file
acroread -toPostScript file.pdf

It works almost perfectly except:
1. It generates postscript gv cannot read.
2. More annoyingly, it chops off the last couple of characters of long
lines that wrap around in the text.
#2 is the pain because I am just extracting the text into an ascii file.
Does anyone know how to stop this behavior? I tried using landscape,
level1, and custom page options (acroread -h), but nothing does anything.
