True enough, and also several other snd-xxxxx-oss modules, but whatever
the combination devfsd will not build the /dev/dspn entries, so loading
is not highly useful!

I imagine I'll just stick with 2.4.x kernels for quite a while.  I've
seen a few other postings compaining about the AC'97 codec error
(via google) but no answers.
