Kurt, you been on line long enough to be familiar with FIDOnet?
A seperate application(door) loaded onto a bbs and serving the early relative of
email all across the US and farther? With some major servers located at
universities/corps and larger BBS's as hubs and then smaller BBS's transfering
to each other to pass and collect messsages from source to hubs.
FIDOnet started in 1984 and BBs's around 77 so if FIDO does not fit that
description I'm sure some BBS software had auto update features at least to
some extent.
