Like I said, the aic7xxx and aic7xxx_old modules have been around a long
time and the 'old' module can still be built from the 2.4.20 kernel.
Look around your 8.0 system and I am sure you'll find them both.
Personally I hope the kernel crew never gets rid of aic7xxx_old since it
was always rock solid.
However, since your controller isn't seen at all by the boot, I think you
must have a different problem. The problem with the new aic7xxx was
that it *tried* to work with the controller but just got lots of
timeouts and other errors.
