Well, this is not so very surprising. What big business hasn't gotten sued
in the last ten years?
Not naming the code that was stolen for fear the linux community
removing the code from the kernel is about the lamest statement I have
ever heard. Obviously, this is not about protection of intellectual
property rights. If it were, they would just confront the abusers and tell
them what SCO thinks belongs to them and demand it be removed. Since
linux is open source, the source code is available for anyone to
examine. SCO should be able to be very specific about what code was
used improperly. Isn't there some part of patent law that states if
you don't try to enforce your patents you lose the right to those patents?
They haven't tried to enforce their rights for years.
I wonder if they will name any individuals in the linux movement as
targets, you know, and ruin them financially. Or, will they just go after
the deep pockets. Its not like MS needs the money. But, they could crush
the move to linux. Which they badly want to do. They could do nothing,
and just hold litigation over everybody's head. Like in chess, the threat
is more powerful than the execution.
Sounds like a savvy move on Microsoft's part. Just gotta admire the
single minded greed of the MS corporation. They realize that the aim of
their business is to make money. They have a long history of killing their
competition. They don't seemed confused by all the technology overlay,
its just basic, primitive capitalism. The robber barons of the 19th
century seem to be the role model of MS.
That said, excuse me while I go work on some Excel spreadsheets for work.
