No, I haven't tried that, yet. I'll look into it. I've got a PC, here at 
the office, that I'm using as a guinea pig -- started out with COL311; 
then Knoppix (hd install); then Debian; then Suse 8.2. I think I'll 
reinstall Debian and then try synaptic.
