Absolutely!!  I owned a 1990 Passat (first year introduced into the US) and
loved it.  I've since purchased or leased a 1992 Jetta, a 1996 Golf, a 2000
Jetta, and will likely be buying a 2003/4 Passat 4Motion at the end of May
(though my bride is lobbying for the yet to be imported, Taurig: SUVlite ;-) )
Never had a problem with any of those VW's <shrug>
