Just tried the problem drive in another computer here and its seen by 
the kernel (Slack 9.0)as a slave. Edited fstab and it just works. I 
would have never thought of the BIOS being the culprit, dang. I guess 
fujitsu and IBM won't play well together on the MSI board.  Even moving 
the  Fujitsu  on the secondary ide  didn't work. But all the drives in 
any combination fair well on the gigabyte board. Another lesson in 
computer hardware again<G> Thank you..
