suse 8.2 networking -- printer solved

okay. solved it. first, there are *two* cups directories of h-p 
drivers, one named "hewlett-packard," the other "hp."

second, the printer was blowing up after trying to print because yast2 
DEFAULTS TO FRIGGING A-4 PAPER!!!! and the printer was looking for a 
tray keyed to a-4, of which there is none. and there is no place in 
yast2 this time round to fix it. have to use the cups configurator 
for that.

whereupon, using the correct cups directory (hp), i configured my 
printer four times: default, which is single-sided printing on letter 
paper; double-sided printing on letter paper; single-sided printing 
on legal paper; and double-sided printing on legal paper. and it now 
works.
