I would use Freesco. http://www.freesco.org. It is a small distro that
runs on a floppy. Plus, you don't have to worry about stripping out all
the extraneous stuff that is not needed for a router/gateway. I use it
at work for a router on a 486-33 w/ 16megs o' ram.
It will do all that you require and you can install it on a hard drive
if you want. It is cake to set up and configure. Samba is a 3rd party
app that you will need to add to it though, but is listed on the
freescosoft.org website, a site for all add-on apps for Freesco. Samba
may make it require the hdd install but I dunno. Also, it generally
needs DOS on the hdd but I believe there is a blurb in the FAQ about
installing it w/o DOS.
