$200 computer: Status report

I want to keep as close to lindows as possible. I am trying to see if a
distro can really make it almost like windows in terms of ease of use and so
on.

I didn't build xine from source. I downloaded it from the warehouse. I
am trying to just use the the debian way of installing software. And,
as I noted, C++ programs won't compile on this machine.
