This explanation makes most sense to me.  I know the CD is OK
because I've installed quite a few systems from the same set of
CDs, including another machine this morning after having problems
with the IBM.

Furthermore, running the general diagnostics on the IBM showed a
failing disk drive, and IBM is send us a new drive.
