in my experience (as somewhat detailed here:
http://www.linuxandmain.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=333),
the suse installer, which was terrible in 7.x has become utterly
unusable on many machines in 8.x. for some people it works just fine,
but i don't know any of them. it has taken me three days to install
and configure -- sort of -- 8.2 on a perfectly ordinary vanilla clone
here. and i still can't get the network set up on it, because the
network card that worked perfectly on 7.2 four days ago will not
connect under 8.2. and i was one of the lucky ones -- the frigging
install routine didn't blow up until *after* the software had been
copied over.

a pretty sorry spectacle.
