What it biols down to is my total lack of comprehension of devfs and its workings.
Although there could be something else stuffing the works up.
I have installed, very recently, Mandrake 9.1 and evrything went smoothly except
for my TV card (hauppage pctv 250) no drivers as yet.
I found tonight that I cannot access any of my cd drives or floppy at all.
fstab entries:
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/hdd,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
When called from a terminal:
[root at cpe-203-45-133-237 mnt]# cd cdrom
bash: cd: cdrom: Input/output error
[root at cpe-203-45-133-237 mnt]# cd cdrom2
bash: cd: cdrom2: Input/output error
permissions:
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 May 23 2000 mnt/
and inside:
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 22 19:00 cdrom/
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 22 19:00 cdrom2/
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 22 19:00 floppy/
drwxrwxrwx 14 root root 4096 Dec 31 1969 win_c/
drwxrwxrwx 93 root root 8192 Dec 31 1969 win_d/
drwxrwxrwx 6 root root 8192 Dec 31 1969 win_E/
dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Apr 11 08:50 win_F/
I need to setup acess to 'dvd' as well and delete cdrom2 as that is my dvd writer.
Lastly I have a need to setup an access point for my camera card reader, but I
have no idea how to setup entries in /etc/devfs.conf. I have looked for something
simple to guide me but there is a dearth of info online, or I am looking at the wrong things.
