CUPS and /etc/printcap modifications

I'm looking to use a SYSV style printer interface script with
CUPS (lpadmin -p printername -i scriptname -V file:/dev/lp0 ...)
to pass text files through to an old dot matrix printer (Tandy
DMP2100 24 pin), and perhaps text files for other printers which
don't require or may have their output trashed if it goes through
the text->postscript->cupsfilters->printer process.

My main question is, am I going to get into trouble with CUPS by
manually editing the /etc/printcap file to add some attributes?
I've been doing this rather than write my own configuration files.

This has allowed me to write a generalized printer interface
script that gets things like netcat commands from the printcap
file rather than editing the printer interface script itself.

The most serious doubt that has been thrown on the authenticity of the
biblical miracles is the fact that most of the witnesses in regard to
them were fishermen.
