Whoa!  If Lindows is based on debian (uses apt-get), then getting just
about anything you could want and more is simple.

look for /etc/apt
the sources.list file tells you where you're going and what you're
getting for sources.  Probably stable only.  If so, you can copy the
stable lines and change stable to testing.  If you feel _really_ froggy,
copy the stable lines one more time and change stable to unstable.

Danger Will Robinson!  Unstable can sometimes be very literal.  If
you're a newbie, stick to stable or stable and testing.

As for OpenOffice, try this:

apt-get install testing/openoffice
or 
apt-get install unstable/openoffice

I suspect openoffice is in testing, but maybe not.  My systems are all
stable/testing/unstable.  Some even run experimental (definitely _not_
recommended unless you are sure you can downgrade).

I recommend you:

apt-get install dselect

and run dselect to update your system.
