% We want the following solutions Centrally Managed:
Please define "centrally managed." Managed from a single management
console, located on a single server (not recommended), at a single
site, or what?
% Virus Software
% Event Tracking/syslog monitoring/alerting software
% OS/Application patching/deploying
% GPO type functionality, settings and security
What is "GPO?"
% User/Group management
% IDS host/network based (snort)
% Uptime reporting similar to solarwinds
% Bandwith montoring (Routers)
% Firewall, host based
% E-relay/gateway - virus scanning/content filtering
All of these things are available, in one form or another. In most
cases, you have several options to choose from. I'm not familiar with
solarwinds, but uptime is uptime -- the rest is just statistics. ;-)
% Other Applications needed:
%
% Drive to Drive imaging
% Drive to image
Ook?
% byte level syncronization software (mobiliti software)
rsync
% Full Exchange replacement
% Fully compatible w/MS office 2k suite
OpenOffice or StarOffice come to mind, and there are others.
% SQL, which is best, MySQL, PostGres or ???
Depends on what you need from your database server.
% Content Management - PostNuke or??
Pick yer poison.
% Fax Server Software
Yup.
% Backup Solutions
Lots of 'em.
% E-Mail client, compatible with above Exhcange replacement
Ximian.
% Need specific Business apps replaced or adapted to Linux,
% Mortgage software (genesis 2000)
This could be tricky but isn't intrinsically impossible. Some solution
may already exist.
