digikam nows works!.   Once I cleaned out some old RPM's and installed 
digikam from source, it works just fine.  Thanks, Roger!

And it's nice...  very nice.

BTW, for anyone else doing this, I had to load mucho strange pieces of 
KDE and QT3, mostly the devel stuff which wouldn't normally get loaded 
even if you asked for 'everything'.
