I don't even know what an ebuild is... but try this anyway...
>From your desktop(kde?), open up a konsole and execute xine from the command
line. Fire up the browser, choose dvd... after it fails, close xine and then
look over the console messages that xine wrote. Somewhere in there will be the
clue to your problem.
