libpng.so.3 problem

As it would not see it I cpied it to at least two other locations to see if it 
would pick it up in at least one but to no avail. AFAIK these loactions are 
the std paths for libs, any other would not be found unless entered in 
/etc/ld.so.conf

However I thaink I have another problem in so far as I cannot configure 
'some' tarballs' without the configure not finding autoconf and automake.
Just did a loacte and cannot find either although they are both suoopsed 
installed.
