  Yes, you *do* need to backup your data partition, especially if you're 
moving to a more modern filesystem type. (Caldera 3.1 is becoming 
obsolete quickly) You stand just as much of a chance of fat fingering 
something when installing Caldera, Slackware, Debian, or any of the 
others. People who say they don't need to backup their data for whatever 
reason do *not* gain sympathy for being sub-brilliant. Just because you 
*can* do a Caldera install and have a warm, fuzzy feeling about it 
doesn't give any justification for not having a backup, regardless of 
the distribution. I understand you're speaking of your confidence level, 
not of the actual, realistic differences of the install process, however 
backups shouldn't be based on this factor at all.
