yes, actually.  Example:  there were a couple of good makers of buggies
(stage coaches, etc.), that went out of business after cars started being
made and sold.  They had good managers, they just didn't have the capital
to go into the car business, so went out of business.  My history on this
is a bit rusty so I don't have names anymore.  But your example is
possible (just not normal).  Passenger rail travel also suffered greatly
from the introduction of airplanes and busses (and interstates).  All were
thrust on the RRs during a very short period of time.
