Thanks to Kurt, Bruce, Ken, & Lonni for prompt and helpful responses.
Once I blew away the lock file, then I was presented with a profile
dialog each time, bummer. So I copied my bookmarks.html, blew away
.mozilla, and started afresh. Now life is good again.
