I've been working with the openpkg system (www.openpkg.org), and their SRC
RPMs build without changes.
I'll probably be preparing a presentation on openpkg for next Tuesday's
Seattle Unix Group meeting. It's a multi-platform system for package
management that uses RPM to maintain systems independent of the vendor's
package management system. The primary goal is portability, and it's
supported on various flavors of Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris.
I've been learning my way around the system by bootstrapping openpkg on a
Caldera eDesktop 2.4 system (largely because I want to try running binaries
created there on some Cobalt Raq systems since I've botched some things on
the Raqs in the past :-). Most of today's been learning the differences as
I've been hacking the RPM spec file for our standard utility package we
install on all our customer's sytsems.
The openpkg SRC RPMS have built on the eDesktop 2.4 system without problems
including gcc-3.2, gdb 5.2.1, and perl-5.8.0.
