Mozilla Helper Apps

Does anyone have an experience with Mozilla (1.2.1) helper apps?  I am trying to set gmplayer up to play MS asx files when one is selected.  I have a site I'm using as a test that plays music when I click on an icon.  They recommend MS media player but I want to use gmplayer <G>.  I set up the Mozilla helper app as

Name: MS asf format
helper app: gmplayer
mime type: video/x-ms-asf

Gmplayer opens, then tells me it can't play the format and the player display shows [00] channel2-10 [00:00:00] scrolling through.  It appears that gmplayer did not get the URL given to it which is

http://www.sermonaudio.com/channel2.asx

I've never tried this before and my be way wrong in what I'm trying to do but somehow I should be able to have Mozilla play stuff without using MS!
