I have no idea what you're talking about here.  I don't use a GUI to admin
my boxes.  Your 2.4.2 configuration is 100% irrelevant.  Did you compile
support for your NIC & sound card in 2.4.20?  That is the only thing that
matters right now.

Are the modules loaded?  Look at the output from lsmod.  You could also
look in your messages log for errors, but if you didn't compile support
for your hardware in 2.4.20 then that's the source of the problem.
