Many of the scsi drives that IBM was actively selling on thier AIX platform ran at 10K in 1997 (And you could buy OEM versions for PC's if you had the money) and I even saw some 15K drives as early 1998. My world does not soley revolve around PC hardware.

No. I use scsi drives in all my PC's and have since 1990.
Regarding turning swap off, As I said in my last post: "I know alot of people do not want to run a system without a swap space".
