I disagree.  Once you told us the source of the problem, it didn't take me
much time or effort to find relevant information that led to a solution.
You're awfully quick to bash OSS documentation (or the lack thereof), yet
i don't see you praising the alternatives.  Where is the freely available
information on the various components of OSX, or XP?

I'm not so sure that OO uses the font cache.  I thought that OO had its
own independent one.
