I wouldn't consider that a piece of cake at all.  Its a kludge to work 
around your distaste for the modular architecture of the kernel.  Use 
modprobe.  It was designed to deal with all the complexities of loading 
modules, and handles it alot more sanely than the 15 steps process you 
created.
