I'm sorry but I dont use linux for graphics or video.
here is what I do.
kodak dc5000
use the serial cable that came with the camera to grab pics.
use the USB cable to grab pics or video(no audio).
webcam32
sony trv525
sony RCA outs to connextic quickclip(parallel)
webcam32
Both work great on W98.
Between the usb and serial outs you should get some kind of results
under linux.
