A permanent solution: use a real WM like xfce, or fill in the blanks,
instead of the Bloat Monster ("real men/women don't do kde." <grin>)
After a few moments of setting up the xfce desktops like she likes,
xfce/xfwm will automagically restart everything for her each time she
starts xfce. There are a few recalcitrant programs that don't
restart, but she can learn to use Select the desktop, Click on
desktop, select Run Program, select the program or key its name.
Caution, her swap file may go into total withdrawal if you eliminate
kde!
