I have tried to route del -net/-host 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0 gw gw dev eth0 and I get an
error unkonw hosts.

/var/log/messages has no ip_forward in any form.

I have:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
0
then echo "1" /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
1
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
1
this is how the system looks:
