In a word, yes. Once you are up and running on gentoo, emerge the
gentoolkit package, and you can query the packages easily. There is
even a KDE/QT based gui interface to portage).
Or, if you like simple *nix tools, just 'find /var/db/pkg -name
"*.ebuild" | grep xyz' to get a list and look for a specific package
xyz. The directory listed in the command is the installed packages
database for portage.
