Dang, I'm getting the same error (word for word)
I'm using slackware 8.1 with kernel 2.4.20 from kernel.org. also even 
though it says that " saving rejects to file fs/ext3/super.c.rej "
there is no /usr/src/linux/fs/ext3/super.c.rej (if that matters)
