DRI issues

Hi all,

Trying to get DRI working for my Radeon 8500 (yes, I know the drivers
are beta, but my current X version is 4.2.99.2 - got to love the default
large, translucent, red cursor with a huge drop shadow). But here's the
problem: The only kernel I've found that really likes my new
motherboard is 2.5.44-ac2. The DRI drivers apparently only like kernel
2.4.19 when I try to compile new DRM stuff from dri.sourceforge.net,
ATI-Gatos, and XFree CVS. And the only place where I see a problem that
might b solved is in my XFree log file:

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] created "radeon" driver at busid "PCI:1:0:0"
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] added 8192 byte SAREA at 0xe4a2e000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] mapped SAREA 0xe4a2e000 to 0x40029000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] framebuffer handle = 0xd0000000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] added 1 reserved context for kernel
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIScreenInit failed because of a version
mismatch.
[dri] radeon.o kernel module version is 1.1.1 but version 1.5.0 or newer
is needed.
[dri] Disabling DRI.

So how might I compile kernel module 1.5.0 for my 2.5.44 kernel?

			TIA

P.S. to sum up what else I have tried- I was getting module version
errors also on various Gentoo revisions of the 2.4.19 kernels that I
could use on my old motherboard.
