autoconf problem

Greetings,
I'm attempting to rebuild an SRPM for glibc-2.2.4 and its bombing out 
with the error:
+ /usr/bin/autoconf
configure.in:150: warning: AC_CONFIG_SUBDIRS: you should use literals
configure.in:583: error: AC_REQUIRE: cannot be used outside of an 
m4_defun'd macro
configure.in:583: AC_CHECK_TOOL_PREFIX is required by...
configure.in:583: the top level

Line 583 is:
AC_REQUIRE([AC_CHECK_TOOL_PREFIX])dnl

Anyone have any ideas on what autoconf doesn't like, and more 
importantly how to fix it?
