No data of value on drive, and I find using ancient technology
okay if it works, and the most flexable/reliable because it's
old, and well known.

Nada. Completely frozen. Sits there like a turkey.

Under Command Line ( init 3 ), the keyboard works, but if left
for up to 2 minutes untouched, keyboard then freezes. 5 minutes later,
monitor screen goes dark.
On Mother Board, I can confirm settings for power management turned
off. PNP turned off.
( This is why I'm thinking apm services sounded logical to me ).
If I 'startx', 'startkde', 'gnome-session', I get a keyboard
and mouse freeze. Under startkde and gnome-session, I get error
messages ( for kde, error's reporting no display defined, under
gnome session, I get python errors ).
>/etc/init.d/apmd stop ??

Tried the following as well
/etc/init/apmd stop
{ returns in dark red [FAILED] }
So, I
]# mv /etc/rc3.d/S26apmd /etc/rc3.d/K26apmd
]# mv /etc/rc5.d/S26apmd /etc/rc5.d/K26apmd
editted with vi the file located at /etc/sysconfig/apmd
' apmd start=yes ' to 'apmd start=no '
But this problem continues to repeat.

I yield to your superior knowledge. What do you think it is,
and what do you suggest I look for where?

Yes, it does. However, it is not compatible with RH 8.0. The file
is somewhat modified ( look at Andrew's reply ).
RH 8.0 no longer supports XFREE 3.3.6 configs, period. They dropped
them in their 8.0 edition. RH supports by default 4.2 drivers
or better.

I did this as well. File was empty.
This is why I stopped and wrote to the list. I don't know what log
files for this volume of RH to look at, so I was wondering if
someone else knew.
Maybe I am not understanding the problem correctly,
but it is frustrating nonetheless. /var/log/messages tells me
nothing either.
It merely mentions start up time, and when the power down
( me turning off the power ) occur. Nothing else.
